Good comment. The one thing makes our local supermarkets stand out from the Coles/ Woolies of the world is the personal service. In our small town, I can phone our IGA or Co-Op and ask for my order to put put together for me to collect when I get in to town at 5.25pm. My groceries are carried out to the car for me if I so desire, and the person at the checkout knows my name. Why would I bother travelling a further 40 km to maybe save a cent or two on a couple of items ?

It's strange that I remember that service being part of city life too. It's more than a generation ago though now.
